Archiving
Archiving
Penamas takes measures to keep its content permanently accessible, through electronic backup of the journal system and through digital preservation of the published content.
Electronic backup
The journal’s database and files (published articles, galleys, supplementary files, and metadata) are backed up weekly by the publisher’s IT unit. Backup copies are stored in a location separate from the production server, and the three most recent copies are kept. The editorial team checks that a backup can be restored every six months.

Digital preservation
- LOCKSS. This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. The LOCKSS manifest lists all published issues by year. More...
- Persistent identifiers. Each article has a DOI registered through Crossref (prefix 10.31330), so citations continue to resolve if the journal’s web address changes. DOI metadata is updated when an article’s location or status changes.
- Metadata harvesting. Article metadata is openly available through the journal’s OAI-PMH interface for indexing and aggregation services.
Continuity
Published content remains openly available under its Creative Commons licence. If the journal changes its web address or platform, the publisher will keep the DOIs resolving and will announce the change on the journal website.
