Authorship Criteria

Penamas: Journal of Religious and Societies

Authorship Criteria

Who is recognised as an author of a manuscript published in Penamas.

Policy Statement

Authorship carries credit and responsibility. Penamas follows the criteria of COPE and the ICMJE and the journal's Publication Ethics policy. These criteria apply to every manuscript submitted to the journal.

1. Contribution Requirements

4 criteria

A person is recognised as an author only if they meet all four criteria:

1
Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, or to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of field data.
2
Writing. Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
3
Approval. Approving the final version of the manuscript for publication.
4
Accountability. Being willing to take responsibility for all aspects of the manuscript and to answer questions about its accuracy or integrity.

2. Composition of the Writing Team

  • Penamas welcomes collaboration among authors from different institutions, countries, and disciplines, including interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work. Authors from outside Indonesia, with a Scopus ID or ORCID iD, are especially welcome.
  • Manuscripts are decided on scholarly merit, not on the number of authors or their nationality.
  • Manuscripts must be based on field research. Authors who include interviews and field photographs must have taken part in, or witnessed, the collection of that data.

3. Author Identity

  • Give full names, without abbreviations or initials, and without academic titles or organisational positions.
  • Write the institution name as it is recorded in scientific databases such as ROR and in reputable international journals, with the city and country.
  • Each author provides their institution, email address, and ORCID iD.
  • One corresponding author provides their name, institution, email address, and telephone number.

4. Author Order

The order reflects the extent of each author's contribution. The first author made the greatest contribution. All authors agree to the order in writing before submission.

5. Contributors Who Are Not Authors

Any person or organisation that helped with the research but does not meet all four criteria is listed in the Acknowledgements. This section names those to whom thanks are due, whether institutions, individuals, or funding bodies.

6. Prohibited Practices

Gift authorship
Listing a name as a token of gratitude or respect, without any actual contribution.
Guest authorship
Adding the name of a well-known figure to increase the chances of acceptance.
Ghost authorship
Leaving out the name of a person who actually made a contribution.

Suspected cases are handled under the Research Misconduct procedure.

7. Changes to the List of Authors

Any addition, removal, or change in the order of authors after submission requires a letter of request and written consent from all authors, including the author whose name is to be removed. The Editor-in-Chief decides, and the journal may ask for further explanation.

8. Authors' Contribution Statement

Every article includes a statement of each author's contribution, using the CRediT taxonomy.

Example: "Ahmad Fauzi: conceptualisation, data collection, drafting. Maria Lestari: formal analysis, supervision, revision."

9. Editors and Reviewers as Authors

Editors and members of the editorial board may publish in Penamas on these conditions: the manuscript is processed like any other submission, the editor and the reviewers are not the author, and the author publishes no more than one article per year in the journal. Reviewers do not review manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.

10. Artificial Intelligence

AI tools cannot be listed as authors, because they cannot take responsibility for a work. The use of AI in preparing a manuscript must be declared according to the AI Policy.
