Abstrak

The article reveals that the implementation of syariat Islam in Aceh can guarantee the freedom for all religions. By conducting a case study at the Christian Methodist College, the author found that the intercultural and interfaith communication at the educational institution of Christian Methodist, Banda Aceh occurred in several interactions, be it pedagogical, cultural, and workplace. Based on the identity negotiations occurring at the educational institution of Christian Methodist, Banda Aceh, the model of harmony construction within the interfaith relation can be formulated by following several steps. First, respecting other ethnic cultures. Secondly, avoiding interfaith conflict. Third, optimizing the functions of the Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB) as a media to conduct periodical and premeditated dialogues among religions. This article concluded that harmony in social relations within the interfaith and intercultural educational institutions had occurred in Aceh. The reason is because multiculturalism is a classic concept in Aceh.
