NAHDLATUL ULAMA AND INTER-RELIGIOUS INTERACTION IN GORONTALO CITY

Abstrak

This paper focuses on the case of NU in Gorontalo City with the reason that NU in this city is a majority group and is needed to assist the government in building internal harmony of religious society. This study uses a qualitative method. The results of this study showed that 1) NU structurally has constraints.The organization does not work in accordance with good organizational mechanisms; 2) NU is more understood as a symbol of moderate identity of aswaja group; 3) The relation between NU and Muhammadiyah in the 19601990s were tough and tense; 4) The appearance of Salafi and Syiah groups is a new trigger for internal religious conflict. This requires the active role of the NU as an organization that promotes moderatism.
