ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN HAMKA'S PERSPECTIVE

The development of Islam in Indonesia had born many Islamic scholars (ulama) who had highest skills in writing that it were admitted in locally and globally. This study was the results of review literatures to Hamka's writing, the great ulama in 20th century in education fields. Through qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, this study found that Hamka was a education scholar and involved in education practices. His ideas of Islamic education referred to students' pure potency, namely the student's soul (al-qalb), physic (al-jism), and ratio (al-'aql) which focus to soul education or akhlak al-karimah. The differencesof Hamka's ideas could be prooved through his writing such as the Tafsir al-Azhar, Falsafah Hidup, Lembaga Hidup, Lembaga Budi, Tasawuf Modern, and etc.
